Child Protection Principles
The Havering Astronomical Society (hereafter referred to as ‘the Society’) is fully committed to protecting children. Whenever there is contact between the Society and with children, the society recognises that a child’s welfare is paramount in all circumstances. In fulfilling our obligations in respect to Child Protection, the Society fully adopts the Federation of Astronomical Societies’ Guidelines on Child Protection. The Society will make this policy statement and the Federation of Astronomical Societies' Child Protection Guidelines, https://fedastro.org.uk/fas/child-protection-guidelines-for-astronomical-societies/ , available to all members..

Responsibilities
Within the Society, the responsibility for ensuring compliance with the Federation of Astronomical Societies' (FAS) Child Protection Guidelines lies with Leslie Jones, Chairperson of the Society who is the Designated Child Protection Officer (DCPO). The secondary, or back up person responsible for following the FAS Guidelines for Child Protection in the Society is known as the Deputy DCPO, and that is Les Brand, Outreach Officer of the Society.

In the event of the unavailability of the Primary responsible person or the Secondary person responsible for following the Child Protection guidelines in the Society, please contactthe Secretary, at secretary@havastro.co.uk .

The contact details for the Havering Borough Council Child Protection Team are Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm) - 01708 433222 Out of hours/weekends - 01708 433999. This number can be used to report a concern or discuss a concern with the Local Authority. 

The contact number of Havering Metropolitan Police is 01708 779125. This number can also be used to report a concern or discuss a concern (101 for non-emergency or 999 in an emergency).
