The following pictures were taken from Essex, using equipment supplied by Anthony Seal of the Southend Astronomical Society. A TeleVue Pronto telescope was fitted with a DayStar Hydrogen Alpha filter and piggybacked on a Meade 10" LX200. Anthony Seal is a regular solar observer and kindly allowed the use of this equipment on Thursday 25th May. The H-Alpha images were taken with Kodak Ektachrome Elite 100 ISO film and a Nikon FM2 SLR.. The picture below is a composite image showing how the Sun looked in white light, with the limb of the Sun shown in H-Alpha (7 Angstroms). Both components were scanned and composited in Adobe PhotoShop. Exposure time for the H-Alpha image was about 1/30th sec. Click HERE to visit Anthony Seal's Web site for further information on solar observing.

The image below is a detail taken from a Hydrogen Alpha image taken by Anthony Seal & Nik Szymanek using the above equipment. Special thanks to Anthony for allowing the use of the excellent solar equipment!
